We are following guidance from the Icelandic Tourist Board with the latest volcanic activity update. You may have seen recent news reports about increased seismic activity in Iceland. The seismic activity described is in a small area close to Grindavík. Grindavík is located on the Reykjanes Peninsula. There is no impact on attractions or infrastructure on the rest of the Reykjanes Peninsula or the rest of Iceland. Therefore you can explore Iceland with confidence.

Iceland is no stranger to volcanic activity. People from around the globe visit Iceland to experience our abundant volcanic resources. Icelandic authorities are prepared for volcanic events with extensive planning and monitoring. Iceland has one of the world’s most effective volcanic activity readiness and response. The Grindavík area is constantly closely monitored and constantly evaluated based on the best scientific data. 

What about in the future?

At this time, scientists consider any disturbance to air traffic an unlikely scenario. However, a potential future disruption to flight traffic cannot be entirely ruled out. Authorities have implemented preventative measures to ensure public safety foremost.
