Create unique souvenirs with Icelandic Seaweed

Make your own Icelandic seaweed art and take home a handmade souvenir from the Eastfjords

Discover one of the most unique creative experiences in East Iceland with our Seaweed Art Workshop in Djúpivogur.

This relaxing one-hour workshop invites travelers to connect with Icelandic nature, culture, and creativity while making their own seaweed-inspired art.

Using locally hand-foraged and pressed seaweed, you will design beautiful decorations and create a cyanotype printed tote bag—two meaningful souvenirs to remember your time in the Eastfjords.

Whether you’re traveling the Ring Road, exploring the dramatic landscapes of Berufjörður, or simply looking for a creative cultural experience, this workshop offers something truly special.

What You’ll Create

During the workshop, participants will create two unique pieces of seaweed art.

Seaweed Clay Decoration
Using air-dried clay and natural seaweed shapes, you’ll design a decorative piece inspired by Iceland’s coastal landscapes. The organic forms of seaweed create beautiful patterns and textures.

Your finished decoration becomes a one-of-a-kind keepsake from Iceland.

Cyanotype Seaweed Tote Bag

You’ll also create a tote bag using the historic cyanotype printing technique, sometimes called “sun printing.”

By arranging seaweed on fabric and exposing it to light, stunning blue botanical prints appear. Every print is completely unique—shaped by the natural forms of the seaweed.
The result is a beautiful and practical souvenir you can use long after your trip.

Learn About Seaweed in Iceland

Before creating, the workshop begins with a short introduction to the fascinating world of seaweed.
