The Path To Ban Whaling In Iceland: An Update

An update on our post about the history of whaling and our previous update on the temporary suspension of whaling.

Sadly whaling was allowed to go ahead this season under stricter animal welfare regulations. Two boats were given permits.

Two brave activists –Anahita Babaei and Elissa Biou– occupied the masts on the whaling ships for 33 hours.

Sadly the ship still launched and 11 whales have been killed this season so far.

One of the whaling ships Hvalur 8 has now been temporarily stopped again by the Food Authority (MAST) due to serious animal welfare concerns in their hunting practice.

This is only a temporary ban and Hvalur 9 still remains hunting despite reports that their hunting practice is also breaking animal welfare laws.
