A Family Legacy: The U 39 Ford

Our guiding story began in 1939, in the serene town of Djúpivogur nestled between the mountains and the sea, where Jón Karlsson, the great grandfather of one of put owners and our lead guide Biggi, purchased a brand-new Ford. This vehicle was special in an area with few vehicles and it bore the distinctive registration number U 39. Jón utilised this Ford for various purposes, including passenger transportation, making it an essential part of his life and the local community.

Fast forward 82 years, and this remarkable story takes an even more modern turn. Biggi’s father, Jóhann, continuing the family tradition, bought a Ford minibus also to transport passengers.

In an extraordinary twist of fate, Jóhann managed to secure the same registration number, U 39. Today, this modern Ford stands as a testament to our family’s dedication to providing exceptional transportation services and commitment to not only our family history, but the history of Djúpivogur.

Throughout the winter Jóhann uses the bus to transport the children of the neighboring fjords to school and during the summer he offers tours in Djúpivogur and beyond to visitors.
