Iceland’s Newest Geothermal Hotspot: Introducing Sky Lagoon

Sky Lagoon is a geothermal bathing pool located in Kópavogur, which is just a 10 minute drive from downtown Reykjavík. This is the place to be this spring, so we went to check it out for you.

View from the cold tub over the lagoon.

You enter the lagoon from a modern turf house that was built using traditional Icelandic construction methods. The lagoon features an in water bar and 7 step spa ritual.

The 7 Step Ritual

The 7 step Sky Lagoon ritual leaves you super relaxed and your skin as soft as a baby’s bum. The 7 steps are:

  1. Bathe in the Lagoon and grab a drink
  2. Plunge into the cold pot
  3. Enjoy the view of the sea from the largest window in Iceland from the Sauna
  4. Freshen up in the cool mist room
  5. Scrub your body with the sea salt and almond oil
  6. Let the oil soak in in the steam bath
  7. Relax in the shower and head back to the lagoon.

From the lagoon you get beautiful views of the sea, the President’s home, Snæfellsjökull and glimpses of the erupting volcano next to Kellir mountain.

This place maybe a little warm for hot chocolate, but it’s perfect for some cold bubbles in a glass.
